Creating a client

Clients are the backbone of your business. Barkway makes it easy to keep their details tidy, complete with contact preferences and helpful notes.


Step-by-step

  1. Click New Client
    Open Clients & Pets, choose Clients, then hit New Client.

  2. Enter the client’s details

    • First Name (required)
    • Last Name (required)
    • Phone (optional but recommended for quick calls/texts)
    • Email (optional, but required if you want email reminders)
  3. Add an address (optional)

    • Use Find Address for a quicker lookup, or enter it manually if you want it on invoices.
    • After saving, the client page shows a map preview.
  4. Set contact preferences
    Choose Email or Text. Barkway will use this when email/SMS messaging is available.

  5. Add an emergency vet (optional)
    Helpful in the rare case you ever need it.

  6. Add notes (optional)
    Business notes like “Always pays cash” or “Prefers early slots.”

  7. Save the client
    Click Create Client.


What happens after I save?

  • The client is added to your searchable list.
  • You can add pets, bookings, and balance activity from the client page.

Pro tips

  • Always grab at least one contact method (phone or email).
  • Use client notes for business info. Pet quirks belong in Pet Notes.
  • Keep addresses updated if you use the map preview.
