Creating a client
Clients are the backbone of your business. Barkway makes it easy to keep their details tidy, complete with contact preferences and helpful notes.
Step-by-step
-
Click New Client
From Clients, hit New Client. -
Enter the client’s details
- First Name (required)
- Last Name (required)
- Phone (optional but recommended for quick calls/texts)
- Email (optional, but required if you want email reminders)
-
Add an address (optional)
- Enter the address details manually if you want them on invoices.
- After saving, the edit screen shows a map preview with a quick Google Maps route link.
-
Set contact preferences
Choose Email or Text. Barkway will use this when email/SMS messaging is available. -
Add an emergency vet (optional)
Helpful in the rare case you ever need it. -
Add notes (optional)
Business notes like “Always pays cash” or “Prefers early slots.” -
Save the client
Click Save Client, or Save & Add Pet to jump straight into adding their first pet.
What happens after I save?
- The client is added to your searchable list.
- You can add pets, bookings, and balance activity from the edit screen.
Pro tips
- Always grab at least one contact method (phone or email).
- Use client notes for business info. Pet quirks belong in Pet Notes.
- Keep addresses updated if you use the map preview or route link.
🐾 With clients set up properly, the rest of Barkway runs smoother - bookings, reminders, and payments all tie back neatly.
