Creating a client

Clients are the backbone of your business. Barkway makes it easy to keep their details tidy, complete with contact preferences and helpful notes.

Step-by-step

  1. Click New Client
    From Clients, hit New Client.

  2. Enter the client’s details

    • First Name (required)
    • Last Name (required)
    • Phone (optional but recommended for quick calls/texts)
    • Email (optional, but required if you want email reminders)
  3. Add an address (optional)

    • Enter the address details manually if you want them on invoices.
    • After saving, the edit screen shows a map preview with a quick Google Maps route link.
  4. Set contact preferences
Choose Email or Text. Barkway will use this when email/SMS messaging is available.

  5. Add an emergency vet (optional)
Helpful in the rare case you ever need it.

  6. Add notes (optional)
Business notes like “Always pays cash” or “Prefers early slots.”

  7. Save the client
Click Save Client, or Save & Add Pet to jump straight into adding their first pet.

What happens after I save?

  • The client is added to your searchable list.
  • You can add pets, bookings, and balance activity from the edit screen.

Pro tips

  • Always grab at least one contact method (phone or email).
  • Use client notes for business info. Pet quirks belong in Pet Notes.
  • Keep addresses updated if you use the map preview or route link.

🐾 With clients set up properly, the rest of Barkway runs smoother - bookings, reminders, and payments all tie back neatly.
